We have recently acquired a collection of 19th century English shoe form shuff boxes of the highest quality from a major estate in New York City. They are highly unusual both in the quality of the work and in their condition.
An older, unusual piece. The artist is dipicting a heavier work boot rather than the usual gentleman's or woman's shoe. The choice of wood is a rougher grain and the brass pique and tabs on the sole are of a heavier quality. The stitching on the front and sides however, is picked out in tiny brass pique and the boot is laced with brass tacks, wire and a cloth strip. The top slides open and still has the label from a long ago collector: "Wooden shoe snuff box. Made in England ca. 1800"
