19th C. Bamboo Basket

	Date: CHINA 1867 to 1890 Height: 14" Width: 10 1/2" Depth: 15" Price: $125 Description: A country-style covered basket, woven from bamboo and covered with black lacquer. The top of each basket has been decoratively woven with both wide and thin pieces of bamboo while the sides are closely woven with the thinner pieces and knot-like details. The lacquer coating gives the basket a solid, wood-like strength that would have made this a very useful piece in the Chinese countryside. We were able to obtain a number of these baskets so the one pictured may not available. However, all have the same design and type of detail; the wear on the lacquer finish and the placement of details may vary.
