With the opening up of the Ukraine and other formerly Soviet countries, the rest of the world is only now learning of one of the greatest impressionist periods in the history of art: from 1950 to 1985. It was through the brush stroke that the Soviet artists expressed their freedom. This was captured in the plein air works of listed artists who were sent to document everyday life and landscapes. The style is loose, alive, bold, confidant and a natural evolution of the works of the French impressionists of whom Russia was so fond. In the Soviet period, art was for art's sake and not about the individual. Most of the works were signed on the back so as not to interfere with the art. The artists themselves are now either dead or in their later years. Most were born between 1900 and 1930 and were art professors at many of the most famous Soviet schools. They are waiting to be discovered. Among them is the next Monet. LiAsia Gallery and Library Antiques are excited to offer this undiscovered art movement that is just now coming into the art market. A world class collection at affordable prices.
